Henry Kim's main research interest is in the theory of automorphic
forms and L-functions and their applications to number theory.
By combining the Langlands-Shahidi method and the converse
theorem of Cogdell and Piatetski-Shapiro, he and his collaborators obtained many instances of Langlands functoriality, such as the functoriality of the symmetric cube and the symmetric fourth, which opened the door to many applications in automorphic representations and analytic number theory.
One application by him and Sarnak is the current best bound 7/64 towards the Ramanujan conjecture.
