Park, Kwon

Professor

Condensed Matter Physics, Strongly Correlated Systems

Kwon Park works on condensed matter physics particularly focusing on strongly correlated electron systems. His main research areas include the fractional quantum Hall effect, high temperature superconductivity, and quantum magnetism. In the fractional quantum Hall effect, he has applied the composite fermion theory to explain various collective properties of the fractional quantum Hall systems. His recent research effort is devoted in the intriguing state of the even-denominator fractional quantum Hall effect. In high temperature superconductivity, his research concentrates on the intimate connection between antiferromagnetism and superconductivity. Technically speaking, he has discovered that the t-J and the Gutzwiller-projected BCS model are intimately connected, as shown by the unity ground state wave function overlap at half filling and generally high overlaps at moderate doping. Kwon Park is investigating if this connection holds an important clue to the ultimate understanding of high temperature superconductivity. In quantum magnetism, he studies various quantum phases and transitions in geometrically frustrated quantum magnets.
