Son, Young-Woo

Professor

Theory of Materials

Prof. Son has contributed to theoretical understandings on physical properties of nanostructures and low dimensional materials using ab initio computational methods as well as model analysis. His theoretical works have predicted and clarified several important physical quantities of low dimensional crystals and have provided fellow researchers with invaluable information to understand their observations. His works on low dimensional carbon nanostructures and two-dimensional crystals have contributed progress in understanding electronic, magnetic, chemical, optical and mechanical properties of newly isolated and synthesized materials in 21st century.

The works of Prof. Son have been published in several important journals and have been cited more than 14,000 times. His works regarding on graphene nanostructures published in Nature and PRL respectively was selected as “Google Classic Papers” in 2017 by Google Scholar. He also has received several important international and domestic awards such as the international Young Scientist Award by International Union of Physics and Applied Physics, the Knowledge Creation Award 2013 of Ministry of Science of Korea Government, Excellent Research Award by Korea Physical Society, Young Member of Korea Academy of Science and Technology and the POSCO TJ Award.
