Zelmanov, Efim I.

Distinguished Professor

Algebra

Efim Zelmanov's interests include Nonassociative Algebras, Lie Algebras, Group Theory. In 1980s he developed a structure theory of infinite dimensional Jordan algebras and applied it to Engel - type problems in Lie algebras. These methods led to numerous applications in the study of torsion groups, in particular, to the solution of The Restricted Burnside Problem. Recently Zelmanov has been working on profinite groups, Lie algebras graded by root systems, Lie and Jordan superalgebras.
