TITLE
Towards Socially-Intelligent AI: Understanding Human Social Interactions
ABSTRACT
For machines to interact naturally with humans, they must be able to understand human social behaviors and the resulting interactions. While recent advances in artificial intelligence have shown remarkable progress in extracting semantics from images, videos, and language, detailed understanding of human social interactions remains a significant challenge. Human communication is inherently multimodal, relying not only on verbal cues but also on non-verbal cues such as gaze and gestures. In this talk, we explore recent research efforts towards socially-intelligent AI, focusing on modeling human gaze, social gestures, and multimodal social interactions. We conclude with a discussion of promising future directions.
