ABSTRACT: We study the D3-branes wrapping divisors in Calabi-Yau orientifold compactifications in type IIB string theory. Euclidean D3-branes wrapped on holomorphic four-cycles(effective divisor) contribute to the superpotential as non-perturbative corrections. Witten’s counting of fermion zero modes in terms of the cohomology of the structure sheaf applies when the divisor is smooth. We will study the generalization while effective divisors of Calabi-Yau threefolds have singularities along rational curves.
